Chapter 17

Roarke

* * *

I haven’t caught sight of Caitlín all day. In fact, she hasn’t left the house. Not even for her afternoon yoga session where she always puts on a show for me. I’m still sitting on the couch in the guest house—wide awake—where I’ve been since last night, only getting up to eat or use the bath room. I haven’t slept at all. For at least the hundredth time, I pull up the tracking app on my phone, just in case. But, no, the flashing pink dot only a short distance away hasn’t moved. Not since we got back from the debacle at the club.

I’m royally fucked. The one task I’ve been given—been trusted with—and I go and fuck it up by touching Carrick’s niece. The woman who’s held my fascination for five, long years. The worst part about it? I want to do it again. Only the next time, I want her splayed out on my bed, naked and writhing as I slowly feed her cunt with my cock. Caitlín’s like a sickness that’s made its way into my veins and infected my whole body. The picture of her reaching release is yet another to add to the collection that takes up space in my brain. It’s one more way in which I’m betraying Carrick.

The phone in my hand rings.

“O’Sullivan.”

“It’s Cian. I found your man,” he announces. “Although, I’m still not sure why you’ve been looking so hard for him. He’s no one affiliated with our organization.”

I hadn’t told Carrick or his sons about the attack. Maybe I should have. It’s too late to say anything at this point.“It’s personal.”

“He’s apparently a regular at Mannings Bakery. Goes in every night right before they close and gets himself a large coffee and scone. Like clockwork,” Cian says. “You’ll find him there within the hour.”

I glance out the window. The sun is just past the horizon and dusk is settling in. “I need a favor.”

“What’s that?”

Putting my trust in someone else isn’t something I usually do, but this is Cian. If he gives his word, he’ll keep it. “I need you to keep an eye on Caitlín while I’m gone. And I don’t mean the kind where you sneak her out of the house and take her to the casino without telling me.”

“I’m not sure you have to worry about that,” he says. “I haven’t seen her yet today and Nora says she hasn’t left her room. Even asked for her meals to be brought to her. Anything I should know about?”

Ignoring the guilt that rises, I grit my teeth. “No.”

“If you say so,” Cian snarks. “Either way, yes, I’ll make sure she doesn’t get into any trouble while you’re doing whatever it is you have to do.”

“I appreciate it.”

After I end the call, I grab my gun from the lockbox and head for the city. Shortly, I arrive at the location, park, and wait. Sure enough, twenty minutes later a familiar man strides down the sidewalk and enters the bakery.
